“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

~2 Corinthians 4:18 (NIV)

God’s Word reminds us that the BEST is yet to come!  It is ALWAYS God’s will for us to keep our eyes fixed on what is eternal: our real home in heaven.  It’s so easy to get caught up in “the tyranny of the urgent”.  Our relationship with God & others suffers when we do.  We can, with the power of the Holy Spirit, FIX OUR EYES on the eternal, but it’s a nearly constant battle in our culture!  Mark 4 recounts Jesus’ parable of the sower.  Mark 4:19 says this:  “but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.”  A truly fruitful life is a life focused on ETERNAL things, like our relationship with Christ and our relationships with the people He has placed in our lives.   Fruits like real love, lasting joy, and soul-deep peace begin to take root and spring forth in our lives as we focus in on these truly important and everlasting things.

It can really help to have someone come alongside us and help us examine the degree to which our focus is on the eternal.  Great freedom and fruitfulness comes as we purpose in our hearts to FIX OUR EYES on the eternal and embrace God’s grace and power to do so.  Feel free to email Wendy Wilkins if you would like to explore this more! wendy.thegreatexchange@gmail.com

Monthly Prayer Focus:  Pray that we will be people who “FIX OUR EYES on what is unseen” (2 Corinthians 4:18).  Pray that we experience both the Lord’s awesome freedom and truly fruitful lives when we do so.  Pray that our church family would be quick to listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit, calling us to remain FIXED on what is eternal!
